Community and Private Land Fire Assistance Program (CPFLA)

Purpose:

The community and Private Land Fire Assistance program is aimed at promoting firefighting efficiency at all levels (on Federal and non-Federal lands) and at protecting communities from wildfire threats. It is intended to improve landscape-level protection from catastrophic wildfires by expanding outreach and education programs directed at homeowners and communities and establishing defensible space on private land in the wildland-urban interface.

Administering Agency:

USDA Forest Service in partnership with State Foresters and other State officials.

Forest Landowner Eligibility:

The USDA Forest Service is currently developing guidelines for this program.

Assistance Offered:

With owner consent, the Secretary, in consultation with the State forester or equivalent State official, may undertake on non-Federal lands

  1. Fuel hazard mitigation and prevention;
  2. Invasive species management;
  3. Multiresource wildfire planning;
  4. community protection planning;
  5. community and landowner education enterprises including the program known as FIREWISE;
  6. market development and expansion;
  7. Improved wood utilization; and
  8. Special restoration projects
